Got me thinking how bloody cool it would be to see a grey powered front engine dragster in the mix!

As close to the Pure Hell FED as IHRA rules will let me 8)

Young bloke picked up the slide-and-glide yesterday (with thanks Brett). Date code shows it was made by McKinnon Industries in Canada, dayshift of the 1st of November 1968. Probably out of a HK, maybe HT.

Removable bellhousing so 6-cylinder version. Legend has it that some bellhousings were only partial circumference and prone to cracking (not sure which cars had that?) though this one is full-circumference.

Weighs in at 46kg dry and with no convertor/flexplate.
• a used grey crashbox, without oil, clutch or flywheel, weighs approximately 27kg.
• a used red crashbox weighs 21.0kg (6kg of this is the bellhousing).
• a used Aussie 3 speed weighs 27.5kg (without bellhousing).
• a used hydramatic weighs 47.5kg.
It needs to be cut down to a "shorty" version and manualised... be interesting to see how heavy it is after that.

Cheers,
Harv

When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

It should look very familiar (with thanks  ). The other one is still on the bench, being used for timing cover fuel pump mounting musings.

Focus this week is on getting the diff in. Hopefully in, and then back out again so I can drop it off to be narrowed and beefed up before going back to work again.

This gives you an idea of scale…Number One Son’s VL front wheels are 19s. The FED wheels are Chev pattern… horribly close to Common-door. Suspect if his wheel wells were bigger then I would have come home to two worn-out slicks 🙄
