Boot Lid stops

Post by steveo »

Hi ,
Looking for some guidance re boot hinge stops. The boot in the open position is finishing with the lower edge very close to back window. The bolt holding bolts were right to the end of the mounting slots on the hinges, so no adjustment there. After removing the boot it is obvious that the two metal bits on the end of the parcel shelf are slightly different and appear to be a home remedy from a previous owner. Question ; 1 ) Is there supposed to be a rubber strip / stopper between the hinge and the stopper? 2) Anyone got a pic of what this originally should look like?
Cheers

Do they look like they may be bent at all ? Perhaps it had a hit in the back at some stage in its life and bent the boot hinges ?
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

The hinges seem to be pretty identical re angles , the car is all straight underneath and doesn't look like its had a hit.
Almost seems like the boot has been forced upwards and forwards ( towards front of car) in the open position.

I'm thinking it is more that the metal that is welded to the boot rim has been folded under and is allowing the hinge to travel too far. Not sure if there is supposed to be a return / fold on the parcel shelf bracket as these are , or it should just be a vertical face with some kind of stopper?

I've saved you the trouble Blacky as I have a pair I removed from my donor FB sedan a few years ago.

First photo isn't thst relevant as it shows the position with boot lid removed from car and hinge down.

Second photo shows the lid fully open position. Hope this helps.ImageImage

You can see it is a vertical face, no stopper.

It must have been a Friday afternoon when they designed this bit .

Thanks for that Clay ,
Was the end of the parcel shelf bracket ( top blue dot in the photo ) originally welded to the under edge of the boot seal gutter? .
Or did it just sit underneath ?
The brackets on this one are welded to the gutter , which I assume was a later fix up ....?

Sorry i can't remember although I think it may have been. I took it off a while ago and it has been sitting out in the weather since. I will try and remember to look at the 'couch cut' in the morning.
