With my limited knowledge mate chassis numbers were stamped at the time of assembly so I thought it should have been fb maybe a replacement chassis at some time due to accident or some other reason.

Somebody else on here with more history knowledge will probably have the answer.

Hi Guys,
I have made a start with my 61? EK ute. The radiator is out and with Natrad to be refurbished and I managed to take the engine and gearbox out of the old girl over the weekend. It was a tight squeeze and needed a little persuasion and I also donated some skin to the cause. Then I scrapped 60+ years of oily crap, (rust prevention) off the outside of the engine to reveal an engine number.
The engine number is B233251.
The chassis number is EK 17316M.

I was hoping that this may help in finding out approx. when it rolled off the production line, and if there is any way to tell if this is the original engine?
cheers,
Shane'o

The engine number is close enough to be original.

On the right hand-side of the block, near to the part number, will be a code with a letter and three or four numbers. This is the casting date for the block. There's also a date code on the cylinder head, the exhaust manifold, and the gearbox case. Post them up and we'll tell you what the dates are.

You can also date the vehicle to within three months by looking at the etched "Armourplate" logos on the glass. You are looking for two etched dots above or below the letters in the logo. A magnifying glass will help here. The rear glass and the window glass will likely be original; chances are that the windscreen will have been replaced. Tell us which letters have dots.
