Need Help: Self Park on 2 speed wipers with a VT Comm stalk
Need Help: Self Park on 2 speed wipers with a VT Comm stalk
Hi all,
I am after any wiring gurus who also know there way around relays etc.
This is what I am trying to do.
I have a Castlemaine Auto Electrics 2 speed wiper motor in my ute and van. I am wanting to run the VT wiper stalk with the wipers.
I can get everything to work except for it to self park.
Now this is where I need some help. How the self park mechanism works as far as I know is that when the wiper stalk is turned to the off position what happens is the park wire on the stalk goes live which then allows the park mechanism to activate at park the wires. I dont think the wiper stalk as a wire for park, so I would most likely need a wire from a relay to go live when the stalk has been switched off.
I don know how to get the park wire to go live when the stalk is moved to the off position.
Now for some diagrams
This is the wiper motor pinout
This is the wiring diagram for the VT stalk. There is only 3 wires that I do not have connected - one is a wire for a wagon and the other is a green wire (which I am led to believe goes to an intermittent wiper relay? and a white and blue wire.
Any thought how I can make a wire on this switch go live when it is turned off (even if the wire is coming from a relay??
Thanks
Jason

If you have a wire that you want to turn "on" when the feed to it is turned "off", then you can run it though a NC (normally closed) relay.
Most relays are NO (normally open). No power fed to the relay, then nothing comes out of the relay. Turn the wire "on", and the relay output goes "on". The NC relays are the other way around. When they have no power, their outputs are shut and power flows out of them. Turn the wire "on" and they open up and the relay output stops.
I learnt about these putting a Calais front end on my son's VL. They use an NC relay to drive the headlight eyebrow motors.
Cheers,
Harv

Yeah Harv I am trying to work this out on a 5 pin relay with the middle 87a pin???
Re: Need Help: Self Park on 2 speed wipers with a VT Comm stalk
one of the guys in our club has done this , he gave Firekraka a hand with a similar setup in his ute I believe, I can ask him for you if you like ???
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

Yeah mate that would be good. Feel free to pass my details onto him if you like.

Cant see that anything has to be done except wire it as a VT/VX as I assume the conversion wiper is a late model. Where are you in Melb I have circuits for VT. Cheers Keith

I have the VT wiring diagrams, the issue is, basically making another wire turn into the park wire.

Okay I've just checked circuit and i'd forgotten about the bcm and also that they are switching positive not earths. Do you have a circuit diagram for the wiper motor. I'm sure it can be done. Why are you using that switch what else has been done? Maybe you can use the switch to switch earths not power in a more conventional way. My interest was peaked because my EH sedan has a complete VT wiring loom with VT column and switch gear inc VS wiper motor.

Re: Need Help: Self Park on 2 speed wipers with a VT Comm stalk
going to use the relay setup as in the post by gpi. I know it can be done by a relay and I will test that on the bench before I actually make it live in the car.
Why am I using this switch because both my FJ ute and FJ van are v6 with a VS steering column in them. My ute has the VP motor in it with a 5 speed and my Fj van is a L67 conversion from a VT commodore with a IFS and IRS.

I just put up an answer on the FC forum Jason didn't know you were on here also.
As Blacky said I can look and see what I've done.
