G'day Mick,

I'm no expert at deciphering plates, but from what I know:

FB229-13696-A
The "FB" bit says is an FB (duh :) ).
The "229" bit says its a Special Station Sedan (215=standard sedan, 219=standard station sedan, 225=special sedan, 2104=panelvan, 2106=ute).
The "13696" says that it is the 13696th body to roll off that assembly line.
The "A" bit says its a South Australian bodied vehicle.

625-826 says the trim is Mawson and Penguin grey.
585-9636 says the paint is Scallop beige Duralon acrylic laquer.
585-9699 says the painted insert is Morning grey Duralon acrylic laquer.
585-9635 says the roof was painted Scallop beige Duralon acrylic laquer.

From what I understand of the paint colours, these were 1960 colours.

Cheers,
Harv

Naah, no expert. I've got no idea what the "635" or "585" numbers on the plate signify.

Trim codes are printed in the front of the MasterParts manual. There is an abridged version here:

Paint codes are available here:

(scroll to the bottom for a year-by-year set)

Appreciate the help fellas.
Does anyone know what the numbers are on the panel inside the engine bay?
I think they may be the build number but it is different to the compliance plate; doe this mean it been in an accident?

Engine bay number is the subframe number, different from the body numbers. Pretty sure 'S' indicates subframe was manufactured in Sydney... someone correct me if I'm wrong

Yep, the Body Assembly number is the one on the tin plate riveted to the firewall. The Vehicle Assembly serial number is stamped onto the subframe.

The letters are listed in the front of the MasterParts catalogue:
A = South Australia (presumably Adelaide, Body Assembly and Vehicle Assembly)
B = Queensland (presumably Brisbane, Vehicle Assembly only)
M = Victoria (presumably Melbourne, Body Assembly and Vehicle Assembly)
P = Western Australia (presumably Perth, Vehicle Assembly only)
S = New South Wales (presumably Sydney, Body Assembly and Vehicle Assembly)

So a South Australian body with a New South Welsh subframe. Could have been an accident repair swap, or perhaps subframes/bodies sent between the two cities during construction.

Hi guys, this is the ID numbers on my EK special sedan - I wondered if there's a way to tell if it's a 1961 or 1962?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Lana, body number is quite low and so is Chassis number so i would assume its a 61 model.

My Ute is 4494 S so they may have been made on the same day or at least the same week.

Mine was made in late 1961 - probably November/December from what I have found out BUT not sold until Jan of 1962 - I call mine a 61

Lana,
You need to compare EK225 xxxxS body numbers. Yours would be an EK2106 Rob.

Pagewood Sydney would have produced around 25,000 Special Sedans at an educated guess, which puts your body in the early numbers.

The chassis number tally’s with this, being roughly quarter way through series production, so you can bet it is original to the car. By mid January 1962 Pagewood had produced 30,000 EK chassis.

Your car has to be 1961.
Cheers,
Clay
