Hmm
Just read on their site Industrisl Springs are closing down after 80 years in business. Bummer for Australian manufacturing jobs and business not to mention enthusiasts like us. Their factory site is impacted by the Torrens to Torrens road upgrade which was probably the final straw. Will have to find another alternative.

That is a bummer re Industrial Springs. Had my rear leaf springs reset by them many years ago for a very reasonable cost.

The old fb isnt driving at the moment shes just rolling on the original fb diff with no diff center or brakes, (waiting on the torana diff to get back from powder coating).
They look a bit wavy for my liking's but that's why i asked the question. ill be flipping them back to standard and getting them reset ive decided for safety and rego
I had the rears in my old HR reset at a local suspension shop and they were great.
They are the u bolts came with the two inch blocks so they still need to be cut down and getting the springs reset i can do away with the blocks as well.
I think the spring flip would work much better with old sagged springs mine had quite and arch in them still.

Good fun playing around with these old girls. Back in the early seventies my mate had 3" wooden lowering blocks and widened stockies. Tail shaft rubbed when you sat in the back.

Yeah those springs look pretty average. I'll try to remember and get a snap of mine. I used the shortest leaf and they sure didn't look like that. Also have an inch and a half blocks. Used the car daily for nearly eight years and have had it loaded up. Tailshaft only touched once and that was coming home from the Sawtell Nats fully loaded and water logged!

Thanks for the info devil its good to know the limits, it must have really squashed the rubbers down to rub the shaft....do you have rear bump stops?.
8 years is a good time to test springs for sagging.
My aim is to get the fb the same height as your rig i really like how you made it sit.

Edit,
i swear this thing is looking better whoops i mean sagging by the day from just working in and out of it :wtf:
i grabbed a better s bendy spring pic :D

I should add I have an extra leaf added back in courtesy of Trev. I do have bumpstops albeit a little shorter.

Nice work some burnt carpet, back in the dark days when i had a old vs maloo i deleted the bumpstops and the tail shaft wore through the tunnel , i wasnt to worried as once its worn through it can't wear anymore

So are the shackles ment to be facing up from factory or is that another trick to getting it lower? i just presumed they hang down like the leaf sprung 4x4s :?:

I had an EH years ago. A quick trick to lift the back and give it some tyre clearance was to put a lever through the shackle and flip it down. Great for cool rake angle and stance. Only problem is that every time I went over a big bump and the suspension hung down, one or both of the shackles flipped back up. Not real good for handling when only one flips back up. They are supposed to be pointing up.

inverted leaf lowering

Post by the platinum man »

Used to rally &*#@ escorts back in the teeny years and we used the inverted leaf to lower the rear ride height for traction controle issues with the secorts on dirt used to rotate the inverted leaf so as to strengthen the front half of the spring to controle spring wind up under harsh acceleration and harsh bump rebound travel

I think ekstevo went a bit to far idd have probably cut 6 inches off the end of that leaf to relieve the stress hees imposing on the rest of the spring pack
either way spring inversion or resettin is a MUTCH SAFER alternative to lowwering blocks
fitting alowering blocks changes the pivot point of the rear axel because the diff is 6 /8/10// inches away from the centre bolt holding it all in place its gonna flap around like a pair of 38 dd s at the basketball
also if your lowering a car rember the included angle of drive on the rear uni its important to its lonjevity
back to the basket ball and my teeny years

cheers the platinunm man

Just thought of this
when you adjust the ride height be it front or rear rember
TO
ADJUST YOUR HEADLIGHTS
drive up to a wall about 300 mm away and using tape mark the rough centre of the beem
reverse back watching the beam centres
at about 3 metres re adjust the centre of the beam so as the right is 50 mm lower and 50 mm inbound
the left can be less lower and more straight ahead
reverse back again and at 6 metres re adjust simmilar
then at 8 m (if your lights shine this far )adjust to 75/90 mm down on right side and similar /bit more in bound from your origional marks
the left can be more straight and up a wisker
its easy free and makes so much difference
TO OTHER DRIVERS

keep the vehicle straight at all times and think about those lights iff your towing annything or loading up big for the nats
PS youl actualy see better too
driver courtesy helps avoid road rage
Cheers

Playing around with sedan springs to run on the yoot.
Image
Bottom is a standard ute spring.
Centre is standard sedan spring.
Top is a sedan spring with the bottom leaf turned over and put on top. The standard ute and sedan springs are the same uncompressed height. Modified spring is 53mm flatter uncompressed. Not sure if and when these will go on the car. Probably after rego.
