Road Trip to Nationals from Adelaide

Post by Wrongway Roger »

This what I’m planning to do.

Monday 4th -Adelaide to Ceduna - 755 Km around 8 hours.

Tuesday 5th Ceduna to Cocklebiddy – 760 km around 8 hours pending stop offs for sightseeing.

Wednesday 6th Cocklebiddy to Kalgoorlie – 620 km and only 6 ½ hour drive.
Sightseeing in Kalgoorlie.

Thursday 7th Kalgoorlie to Mandurah – 430 km and about 5 hours pending traffic.

I will being stopping off near Mundaring in the Hills to visit my family so will not be in Mandurah until Friday.

I have not booked any accommodation yet but Ceduna should be no problem. Cocklebiddy is limited so either do something now or sleep in the wagon.
Heaps to choose from in Kalgoorlie.

I hope to be on the road on Monday, out of Adelaide around 8.00 am at the latest.
Happy to delay, a little or speed up to if anyone wants to meet up.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Rog
Ceduna Foreshore Hotel Motel is the best of it imho. From $125. Secure parking. Good restaurant. I’m staying there for work next week.
Cheers

Try the York Hotel in Kalgoorlie mate , beautiful old pub right in the middle of town and only $90 a night a few weeks ago.

Hi Roger, I love doing the Nullarbor and hope you have a great trip.
5 hours for Kal to Mandurah might be a bit optimistic as it’s more like around 650km unless, of course, you’ve got a well tuned grey motor and dodge the cops 😀 (Don’t do that though, drive safe).

Enjoy,

John

Hi John,
Oops, Kalgoorlie to my mother's place near Mundaring is around the 5 hours.

It's downhill from Kal so I should be able to keep the speed up near 100, and I'm running the big red,186.

Thanks of the tips on accommodation guys. I will need secure parking with the surfboard on wagon and suspect door locks.

Cheers
Roger

Hi guys
I left Adelaide this morning after a 6 hour drive back from Swan Hill on Sunday night.
I lost my golf match but overall the Croweaters won the day.

Great drive so far with lot to see along the way.
Currently in the Foreshore motel in Ceduna.
Thanks Clay for the recommendation as I love the secure car park

Head off tomorrow morning for Cocklebiddy

Update tomorrow night, if I make.

Hi guys,
Missed the turn off to Cactus, maybe on the way home ,Clay but the board is roped down fairly tight.

I'm in Cocklebiddy now and the drive from Ceduna was very enjoyable with plenty to see.
Stopped at the Head of the Bight to see the whales as you must do when drive across.

I will no longer whine about petrol prices in Adelaide when I paid $2 a litre at Nullarbor Roadhouse.
Luck for me l only have small tank. It took 33 litres to fill. I'm getting around 12 litres per 100 kms.

Heading off tomorrow for Kalgoorlie and will do a little sight seeing.
Hopefully another update tomorrow night.

Cheers

That plank on the roof is detracting from the slippery shape of the EK wagon and costing you fuel. Keep the reports coming and keep enjoying your self.

Hi guys
Currently sitting the Plaza motel in Merredin WA. A bit of a time warp motel but clean and tidy.
The drive from Cocklebiddy to here in the wheat belt of WA was truly a full on experience. From the longest straight road in Aust, all 146.6 kms to the wheat fields with rolling hills on fantastic wide roads.

All most got an emu just out from Norseman but the bugger was a little to quick for the EK wagon, ha ha.
The bush turkey just wandered out of the scrub, did not look either way and walk slowly across the road as if it owned the road.

I had to ease up on the throttle as the fuel gauge hit empty about 20 kms out of Norseman. Filled up with 42 litres at $2.02 per litre, so still had a litre or so to go before actual empty.
Ran from Norseman to Southern Cross and only used 40 litres. Cheap petrol at $1.54 a litre.

All good for the run into Perth tomorrow.

Cheers

I thought the board on the roof was to stop the car lifting off the ground due to the high output mighty red engine
