Blue Six induction

Post by Errol62 »

Possibly not the ideal place to discuss this but here goes. Been looking for a carb setup to suit the twelve port Holden straight six manifold to run in my van for a while. The only options beside the factory varajet set up seem to be Holley two and four barrel or triple Webber which is pretty expensive.

Lately I've seen a twin zenith downdraft two barrel setup with included exhaust manifold. The price and flow seem about right but I know nothing about this setup. Just wondering if anyone on here has heard of this setup before.
Cheers
Clay

Carbys off XF era Foulcans are a pretty popular swap.

390 Holley - good breadth of performance from idle to WOT, excellent sizing for the larger GMH straight sixes:

Thanks fellas
That is very impressive and makes sense based on the small primaries/vac secondaries. Always thought 4 barrel was over carling on a six but the anecdotes say otherwise. I think the 12 port 4 barrel manifolds are available.

Not much change out of $1.5k by throwing cash at EPAy.
Will see how the Varajet goes for a while. Picked up a spare with manifold for $20 or 30 the other day. I've always got around 22mpg in the EK with the 3.3 trimatic. Same as the strommie and 280 Holley on 186 4spd for that matter.
Another $500 gets triple webbers. I suppose they would be finicky to keep tuned and not as efficient on juice. Then there's filters, linkages.

I've got a Varajet tuning kit (not overhaul, tuning - various jets etc) if you want to have a play :D

Thanks Harv
I might take you up on that when I get it in the car. I do like using factory setup where practical which is the main reason I went to the blue motor in the first place.

Hey Clay,

I know you're asking about carb options for your blue six, but have you thought about EFI? Sonic Injection do some really cool stuff.

Josh

P.S. I'm [slowly] piecing together a six throttle body sequential EFI 202 red motor.

Maybe one day. Meantime a smelly old carb will suffice. Wonder if you have seen Pete Mallaby's injected grey on the FC FE site. Well worth a look.

Yes I have - Pete's an absolute magician and a nice bloke too; he's always been happy to answer all my dumb questions regarding setting up EFI. Good luck setting up your carb/s; I say go for triple webers

Must admit it is tempting just from the wow factor. Seen a set on a local FB. They make his mates Holley look like a lump of sh!t metal.

Sonic lnjection do a manifold set for triple SUs to 12 port head.
https://www.sonicinjection.com.au/index ... -manifolds
They also list a nice sounding manifold for Holley 4150 series. Think these are mainly mechanical secondary 4 barrels?
