I'd have to agree with Blacky 100%.

I've got a Lincoln SP 170 T as well and can't say enough good things about it.

Bloody brilliant welder!!

Had it about 10 years now.Cost about $1200 back then but may be cheaper now due to high value of Aust dollar versus US dollar.Would pay to look at pricing one.

I'd definately recommend one.I've never had a problem with mine at all in the time I've had it.

There would be some pretty good cheaper welders I'm sure but will leave others to comment on the performance of those ones.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

I've got a Lincoln Handi Mig 170i or something. I think its a ripper but I have never been taught how to use it and only sometimes pull off a good result...

I have a Unimig 210, fantastic welder. Bought from Hare & Forbes in Parramatta, Going into its 9th year without any hassles. Welds very good, as long as you know your settings. I paid $1250 Late 99.
I'm pretty sure you can buy the 240amp model under that price now.

But the old cliche' a good welder - will make a shitty welder look good.
Take that anyway you like.

most people buy a sip or simular italian made machine becuase its cheap, then they get so pissed off and frustrated with it that they destroy the remains and buy a better machine.
i bought a cheapie, $600 down from $700, never again!
if 1000 is past your price range i would be hanging around swap meets trying to grab a 2nd handy or looking at the cheapest unit at BOC, i think its around 900 and has a decent handpeice and feeder mechanism, it comes with a gas hose, the cheapies only have a hose for disposable bottles wich will cost a fortune so by time you give your cheapie a hose and a handpeice you are looking at $900 anyway.
