acrylic or 2pak... (sorry about the spelling)

Post by mattymartin »

hey team,

(first of all, how are the two spelt correctly)

over the past couple of months i been talking to a few different people about different methods of paint...

some saying 2pak is better than acrylic if your going to be driving it everyday as its a tuffer more durable finish... thats why it cost a bit more

i was just wondering what you guys have used on your cars & if you happy with the finish... would you do the same again...

thanks in advance

+ Acrylic is more period correct if you are into restoring, you can spray it at home with basic breathing gear.
- Acrylic needs to be buffed to a shine whereas 2pack is shiny off the gun. It needs more upkeep.

+ 2pack is a more durable finish

- You need to paint it in a booth as the fumes will kill ya
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I've had cars done in both and 2pac doesn't need as much upkeep as acrylic. Mine's in acrylic as it was done at home, last car I had was 2pac.
Personal choice really, but if your not spraying it yourself leave it to the profesionals as they usually have a preferred product they'll always use...

acrylic or 2pac

Post by FB Cruiser »

G'day Matty, Having been a spraypainter for about 13 years I can say that if you are painting your car at home that acrylic is definetly the way to go, its a lot easier to repair and touch up than 2 pac and when done right can give a really nice finish. 2 pac can be sprayed without a booth ( at home for instance) , but because it can have a long flash off time it can lead to a lot of crap in the paint (such as small dust particles ect), this can make the finish look like crap. I am always painting other peaple's cars at home and I dont't have any complants. If I could work out how to put pictures on the computer I would show some of the work done, well maybe another day, I hope this helps with your question Cheers PAT :)

I did mine in acrylic at home. You can get a pretty good shine if your patient.
