Grey won't start

Post by Trev »

Set the dizzy.
Points gap.
Carby inspected, replaced float and set float level in bowl etc.
Gapped the valves.
Spark plugs gapped. New.

Got spark.
Got fuel.
Turns over but no start.

Any ideas please?

If you have spark and fuel it has to be timing ?
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

No the cam hasn't been touched.
My mate bought it from a swap meet, heard it run there also a couple of weeks ago while in the car.
Not sure of compression.

Top dead center it again and don't go off the timing marks do it from the piston height. Make sure you are on the right stroke meaning the valves are closed and on the compression stroke. Put the dizzy in and with the ignition on rotate it until the points open and spark, make sure your rotor button is at number 1 lead lock it in. Check the leads are correct and you have them going the right way with the rotation of the rotor button. Now look down the carby and make sure fuel is going in when you pump it. Crank it over and it should run if everything else is ok.
Hope this helps if you haven't already checked it.

Believe it or not it went to a mechanic running and came back not running.
Won't be recommending that guy.
