Harv's Jack Myers thread

Post by Harv »

Ladies and Gents,

Recent posts have reminded me that I need to start a thread to pull together some of the Jack Myers history. I’m no Jack Myers expert, but this thread may serve to save some of the info before it gets lost.

I'm intending this thread to mainly be about the grey motor go-fast gear that Jack made, rather than Jack's (extensive) circuit racing career. For those with an interest though, an excellent start to the story is here:

I'll see if I can lay my hands on the Jack Meyers cast iron timing gear again and post some photos.

Surely he would have spelt his own name correctly on that inlet manifold?

Agree. Then again, i misspelt the title of this thread  . Some days, like Winnie the Pooh, I am a bear of very little brain. Can one of the mods please korect mye spellling in the thread title?

Given the stamping spelling, perhaps the inlet manifolds were sold by that big retail mob with a simlar name  .

Jack seemed to stamp/cast his whole name on eveything else too, not just the surname.

The inlet manifold stamp feels a bit odd, though I guess still possible.

Jack with his striped beanie ( probably yellow and black !) sits in the new creation with the Waggott DOHC Holden engine aboard. The WM intially ran 6 Amal carbs but later the carburation was by
6 x 1-3/4" SUs - set up by the late Bill Bressington. This photo may even have been shot in Mayvic St. Greenacre where Merv Waggott had his workshop.

Jack Myers wearing his 'famous' yellow and black striped tee shirt checks the fuel tank. The 6 Amal carbs can be seen on the Waggott head.

Ladies and gents,

As promised, some more info on Jack Meyers gear. Attached below a photo of a Jack Myers cast-steel timing gear from John Brown’s collection:
Image

The photo below (also from John’s collection) shows a Jack Myers stamped rocker cover similar to the one posted above (i.e. looks like more than one was made). John came to the same conclusion that I did – that Jack bought the covers from Kleinig, and then overstamped them.

The photos below show some Jack Myers headers:

Studs and brass nuts - Rare Spares (Prospect), Repco or Peps.
Flange gasket - Supercheap (ACL JE359)
Manifold gasket - Rare Spares
Flanges - any muffler shop.

Here's the bits that I have put together. The link for the flanges is below.

On eBay they offer free shipping so I just rang them (they have the link to their physical store listed) and got two plates plus bolts and nuts for $56.

The gaskets were just at my local super cheap for about 7 bucks each.
