'What if?'...the EK L'Special.......
This was requested last night by Paul 'Smoothcustoms' Kelly..( he hits me with this from time to time, plus we used to do this sort of thing years ago for the 'Newsledder' publication ).
As it involves an EK I thought I'd share it with you folk..
The idea goes like this..what if GMH designers in the 60's were to make the first all purpose full van..seeing as this was really done with the GM boys in 1955.
Thier's, the "L'Universelle" van was based on a 1955/56 Chev sedan then made front wheel drive for more loading capacity & ease of access. See below...
Here's the finished product...(I like this thing!! )
The way I attacked my design was basing it on an EK Special sedan but lengthened the wheel base, make it mid engined rear wheel drive with side opening doors..(more practical & cost affective, as the GMH team would be limited in vastly changing the engineering too much as they did'nt have the mega bucks the parent company had!) With the van completed I shot a popular coat of Parisian Violet & white on it and added the special trim & bright work
...making it 'the " L'Special"....
Scotty.

I like it ! Its in the "weird cool" category
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

Thank god it didn't look like the first pic of the concept car !
By "mid" engined do you mean under the front seat like a Hiace van?
Might be time for a vasectomy reversal .

That first photo in the article is an absolute abomination. Who ever designed that (he doesn't deserve the title "designer") should be shot
There's a show on cable TV that looks at some concept cars designed in the 50's. Some look quite good, and years ahead of their time. Others look ..........

They have all gone away for a couple of days, it's amazing how quickly you forget how noisy they are and miss them .Sputzwagon wrote:

Re: 'What if?'...the EK L'Special.......
The first picture is not of a concept car
It is a body built so the experemental chassis and running gear could be road tested, and if see by an oposition auto company spy it would have given the totally wrong impression to what the finished vehicle would be.
