Holden Deluxe Radio

Post by Lukin »

Hey guys,

I recently acquired an EK with an Holden deluxe push button radio still installed but not working.

It has power and the light comes on but just gets static over the whole band and the volume is constant when it is turned up and down.

My question is if any of you could recommend someone to look at it? (Im in Brisbane) or if its even possible to source another example?

Any tips appreciated

I'm quite sure that's not a standard EK radio...

This may be a stupid question, but is the speaker connection ok?

By the way, how about posting some more pics of the whole car.from what I can see it looks good 8)

I'm not sure if it's the standard radio or not but the Airchief car radio booklet has the installation date the same as the delivery date of the car in the back of the owner service policy and maintenance plan so I presume it came with the car?

Dunno maybe the radio was changed later?

The speaker is making noise like it's in between stations and aerial seems ok, might have to have a better look on the weekend.

I have no pics of the outside yet :? but will once I get it registered

Hi Lukin, the car looks amazing from what I can see. I would love to see more.

Cal, there were many original radios used for early Holden FB and EK's. This is one of them.

if the speaker output sounds weak the valves might be cactus, you might need to call a radio resto joint and find out were you can source some valves.
if it has no reception it might be the ariel connection or ariel.
it might also be a dirty potentiometre (volume control) or maybe the speaker is wrong, modern car speakers are usually 4ohm, house speakers are usually 8 and these old things are i think about 16ohm
if the radio is cactus you can still use it as a dummy but with a working volume control to control volume on a stereo in the glove box.
