FB boot seal

Post by 59wagon »

Hi All, my boot seal is pretty much cactus. I can get one from Rares - anyone know if they fit ok?
Also, what’s the best goo to use to stick it in place?
It looks like the old one will come out pretty easy using a flat blade screwdriver.
The job looks pretty straight forward - any tips would be appreciated.
Cheers,
John

Thanks Paul, see you at the meeting tonight?

Good tip, thanks Greg. There's a few dings and dents I'll have to fix as well, the metal looks pretty thin around this area.

Contact same as what Harv is using for head lining. They can be very tight like doors and sometimes the outer edge will pop out of the gap between body and lid. Pretty hard to get right at the top corners where water can pool and leak in.
Good luck

I've used contact cement (Kwikgrip, gorilla snot) on the boot rubber with mixed success. Because it flexes frequently, the glue tends to come away. Sikaflex is a bit more long lasting.

Don't forget that the orientation of the rubber is important - the lip should point inwards towards the centre of the boot, not outwards.

Thanks, Harv. Which Sikaflex product? Here's the list from the big green shed:

In the picture below, you're saying the right hand side points towards the centre of the boot?

I tend to use Sikaflex 257 or 252 from SuperCheap - more adhesive than a sealant.
