SB Chev V8 engine mount when fitting to FB/EK

Post by FB MAD »

I don't ask too many questions here so it's my turn to ask for advice

I'm fitting 307 to EK.The 307 currently has no engine mounts.

When fitting small block chev to FB/EK using Castlemaine Rod Shop modified HR front end with front mount Torana rack.............................................................

............... Which is the best engine mount to use??....... and why??

I'm thinking HK/T/G :? :? :? .

Don't have access to any of the different mounts to appraise and don't have the $$$ to buy every different type ever made to see which fits best so was hoping someone here already running a SBC in an FB/EK can advise as to which is best to get for the install to save my time and $$$.

One other thing, I intend to run T350 trans on the 307 with a column shift if that makes the choice of engine mount more clear.

Thanks for any help in advance :D .
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Thanks Trev,

Not sure whether to use these adaptors ? and/or use the HK/T/G engine mount as is ? or go the Corvette type ones ? blah, blah, blah etc etc etc.Didn't want to stuff around with the time and $$$ buying all the different type mounts and adaptors.

Hopefully someone who's already done the conversion will save my time and money for me :? ??

Terry, Im not sure what sort of problems you will have with the column shift in terms of clearnce etc.

All my cars have always been floor shift and I have never !!! dabbled with column linkages, will this require a full length steering box ? I cant picture how the linkages work with a rack-n-pinion set-up. Absolute novice when it comes to column shift

One concern I had with SBC in the sedan was clearance from the firewall and room for the pulleys. I also wanted the supercharger under the bonnet concealed hence I needed to be able to adjust the engine up and down.

The best way to have such flexibility is to use an engine plate. I had mounts welded above the chassis rails. I didnt use the front xmember mounts at all. The other neat thing is you can then remove the front xmember whenever (undo steering/brakelines and 4 bolts) without pulling out the engine as it hangs there off the engine plate mounts on the chassis.

See ......... maaaaaagggggiiiicccccccccccc

Might be worthwhile if you can already predict issues with the column shift. If you need other help , please pm as I will get the alert on the emails  Works always a pain in the arse so I get on here very sparadically.

is your engineer asking for a colapsable column? can help out with that aspect if he is, if not you may have clearance issues for the shifter
Use HT HK HG Chev mounts and fabricate brackets, I have the exact part number somewhere of the best ones to use
