Rear springs

Post by parisian62 »

I'm installing the rear leaf springs. Fitted up front pin finger tight. Then did rear hangers.

How do I push/pull the front pin through?

Image

Way too tight to use the nut to pull it through...I think I've already stripped one side...

New repro pins Mick.

Having walked away and calmed down......I think I'll have to remove the pin and do a 'test fit'...probably should have done that in the first place...

Put the pin rite through first (i would be more inclined to hit it through with a hammer rather than relying on the nut to pull it through) there will be less pressure on it, then do the rear hanger.

Thanks Trev. The hammer has been out...

Just pulled the pin out...

A test fit in 'reverse' - putting the head of the pin through first...there is no way it will going to fit...without shaving some metal off the head of the pin.

NOTE TO SELF - test fit everything before fitting... :)

It does have the step down just not as big as the pictured one. Although it looks like there is more thread.

You and a hundred others, Stewart....... we place our troth in replacement parts.... surely they know what they are doing...?
Sadly, a lot of this comes up....

Can you please tell us the difference in shaft boss length - if your issue is as a result of this, I would be making contact with the supplier.... - good faith, the onus is on them to rectify/correct supply.....

I hope that hammer was a "wheel tapper" not a sledge......

Oh, and by the way - what have I done to you...? your paintwork and attention to detail under there is magnificent....... tyre looks a little "ho-hum", however (sic).

you're right Trev...and so is DR ....and so is Mick

There is slighly more thread (2-3mm) but the overall pin length is shorter. Just enough difference to make it a real pain to fit. I had to file down the shaft a bit. Got there in the end.

Roso - no sledge hammer... but a few good whacks with a hammer though. I'm really happy with the way the underside has turned out. I can't claim to laying down the paint that would be Dave (Bootlegger on the forum). No tyre under there yet - I think you can see an old towel draped over a stand of bricks.

I suspected my spectacles were reaching their terminal date.... you have just confirmed it.....

Tyre would have been on the other side of the spring, and only a tyre-wall visible...

Releived to learn that you haven't widened your rear track...
