I've just been informed that as of October it will be compulsory for all cars in WA (regardless of age) must have seat belts fitted.
Not that it's a bad thing.
Just wondering if anyone else was aware.

Mate, I'll confirm, but as far as I'm aware, it's more related to children. No matter what car, all children must be in a seat belt, or you're giving a donation to the government. I think as long as the vehicle didn't come with belts, an adult is still alright. Got a mate who knows the ins and outs, I'll find out.

From what I understand, from October 1-
1) - It will be illegal, no matter what car, to have a child under seven in the vehicle without a seatbelt. No seatbelt, no kiddy under 7 allowed.
2) - Kid's between 4 and 7, unless ALL rear seatbelted seats are occupied, must sit in the back seat, with a seatbelt on, not the front.
3) - Passengers aged 16 and above can ride in the front seat of a vehicle not fitted (pre 1st of January 1969) with factory seatbelts.
You can get a permit to be exempted, but that's more in the region of old Model T's etc for once a year runs etc.
My EK has front buckets, and the standard rear bench. It has 4 inertia belts and a rear centre lap belt. No drama's for my 10 year old to sit in front with me.
My Cadillac I purchased two years ago with no seat belts in it, and the first thing I did was fitted 3 x rear lap belts. My young fella and his mates always sit in the back with belts on. If I let him sit in the front now and the rears where empty, donation to the government.
So, you won't be forced to put belts in your FBEK Holden, but you will if you have to if you have young kiddies, which realistically, at least for the back seats, I think is pretty reasonable anyway.
As long as your vehicle is pre '69, you're excempted as an adult from having to wear seatbelts, but if you have fitted them, then you have to wear them.
