Itinerary from Sydney to Mandurah

Post by WayneXG95 »

A little rough but something we did for our members :)

Attending the Western Australian Nationals.

This Itinerary is a guide for NSW Club members only and not for distrubition
as more details have to be included and costs may change.

You have many options to consider and as this would probably be
a once in the lifetime adventure - You really should attempt to attend.

You should do you own checking and Calculations

Option 1

Driving - Sydney to Mandurah W.A.
Reverse this to work out your return.

Distance 4000klms
Fuel $1120 = 20 fuel stops
Fuel has been costed at $1.60 a litre
and calculated on 40 litres per 250 klms

This travel itinerary is just a guide and can varied
to suit your needs.

Overnight Accommodation

Sydney to Hay 725 klms 8h 34m $130
Hay to Mount Bryan 646 klms 8h $130
Mount Bryan to Ceduna 651 klms 8h $130
Ceduna to Madura 657klms 8h $130
Madura to Coolgardie 693 klms 8h $130
Coolgardie to Mandurah distance 618 klms 7h 45m

6 days driving in total

To arrive on the Friday for the Meet and Great you will
have to leave on the previous Sunday

You may find cheaper accommodation and can deduct the cost from the total.

The above times include 1 hr for fuel and lunch stops

Although there are time differences in South and
Western Australia you will in reality be
still driving for 8 hours each day.

Accommodation Costs $650

Total $1800

Fuel stops

Sydney NSW
Yass NSW
Wagga Wagga NSW
Hay NSW
Robinvale VIC
Renmark SA
Mount Bryan SA
Port Augusta SA
Kyancutta SA
Ceduna SA
Yalata SA
Eucla WA
Madura WA
Caiguna WA
Balladonia WA
Norseman WA
Coolgardie WA
Bodallin WA
Northam WA
Mandurah WA

Take spares such as Tools, Hoses, Belts, Water, Oil, Extra Fuel (At least 10 litres), Fuses,
Spare Fuel Pump, Globes, Points and anything else you can think of.

Personally I would also take a Gasket kit including a head gasket.
You will no doubt find a mechanic but what are the chances of them having a head gasket
for a grey or red motor?

Have the bushes replaced in your generator/alternator.
Consider replacing your battery.

Advise you insurer you will be attending the Nationals in W.A

Up grade to NRMA Premium Membership
Remember you are driving a 60 year old Holden not a modern vehicle.

Total Return $4900

You could also hire a car trailer and take your car across that way
and there may be advantages in that?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option Two

Transport with Ceva from Sydney to Perth

Cost $1744 Return $1538

The price of air fares varies so much it's had to get a fixed price
So this is mainly a guess. You will need to look for flight specials.

Fly to Perth Airfare $1436 two people return.
You may get cheaper fares?

Total $4682

For more information check websites.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option Three

Drive to Port Augusta transport vehicle to Perth with Ceva

Cost $1408 Return $958

Consider your Accommodation cost $520 and fuel $900 Return

Total $3786

For more information check websites.

https://cevacarcarrying.com.au/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Option Four

Not cheap but a once in a lifetime trip!

Travel by Indian Pacific to Perth with Vehicle

You can only travel Adelaide - Perth - Adelaide on the Motorail

Ticket one way per person $2698 per person.

Vehicle on train is $439 to Perth and $298 Return

For more information check website.

I wouldnt recommend staying at Madura , there are better options a bit further west , and you will pick up time heading west so you arent driving on dusk . Cocklebiddy and Caiguna are close by , likewise staying in Coolgardie, theres not a lot there, better off doing the short detour into Kalgoorlie, the miners rest do rooms for $99, they are dated but large and clean. You can also rent a room in the old brothel at 181 Hay St, they are about $110 a night 8) , considerably cheaper than they used to be when the joint was operating
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

Interesting exercise Wayne. Likewise I would choose Peterborough or Burra or even Jamestown in favour of Mount Bryan. Not much in terms of accommodation or fuel there.
Cheers

Hi Wayne
Thanks for putting that post up I hope it will inspire more of the NSW guys and girls to attend our Nationals.

As you say a once in a life time opportunity maybe for some and I don't think anybody will be disappointed if they take the time to have a look at WA.

Even though I am an implant myself and got my green card many years ago   I have to say that WA really has a lot to offer.

Look forward to seeing you all here.

Penong is usually the last of the cheap fuel - then you get gouged until you hit Norseman .........

and don't take this as some type of downer make sure you have some type of road side assist a mate just broke down out there somewhere had to wait 3 days for a tow that would have cost $3500  if he didn't have road side assist, apparently the place where they were staying looked like some type of graveyard for broken backpacker cars
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping
