Re: Dave Bootleger's SCC EH Van
Ive had a bit of a set back with my project this week.
After a massive couple of weeks and almost finishing the car I woke up monday morning with my back in a mess. Ive gone to the shed everyday to get into it but frankly its been too painful and ive had to go back to bed.
I did manage to fit the tailgates. I had to cut the rh frame.
I didnt factor in the clearance needed as the door gets closed when I remade the doors.
Maybe ill do some more tomorrow.
I really want to see this thing done and show it off.

Hang in there Dave.
I know what your going through with having a bad back. My years as a mechanic hasn't done me any favours either.
Push on. I can only hope its a little warmer for you up there as the concrete floor in my shed is freezing and I'm old and stupid and resist using a creeper when I should.
Your van looks a treat so far and I cant wait to see the finished result.
Quality doesn't come quickly; that's my excuse!
Hope your better soon.

Re: Dave Bootleger's SCC EH Van
My offsider turned up today and I felt well enough to have another go at the car.
He gave me a hand to take off the lh door and rh tailgate so I could finish off the trimming they needed to line up properly.
I rewelded the edges and got them in primer.
I also made the wooden floor for the cargo area.
I had a play around with tuning. I have asked a question re the carbs in the engine thread.
We also made a start on harvs colleen green fb sedan.

Re: Dave Bootleger's SCC EH Van
You know sometimes I think some projects are never meant to get finished.
Whilst working on harvs car a gust of wind blew through my workshop picking up a panel, blowing it across the workshop and into the quarter panel of my van. Now I have to paint the quarter again.
Back to the drawing board I suppose.

Harv are you apologising because you feel sorry for me or because it was your damaged spat I was repairing today that flew across the workshop.
Re: Dave Bootleger's SCC EH Van
Both .
That spat has a mind of it's own. Was on the car when I bought it, and covering up the only retread on the car. Stupid me looked for tyre wear when I gave the FB it's mechanical once-over, but didn't even look for retreads. The retread lasted 6 months in Sydney traffic, then did a trip up to Tamworth with a fully laden trailer. Doing 100km/h (ish ) out near Murrurundi when the retread let go. Blew the spat clear off the side of the car... then the tyre belts whipped around and wirebrushed all the quarter panel. Got it off the road OK, only to find the jack in the boot was too tall to fit underneath it (my dumb fault for not checking). Can't say it was a happy day.
Cheers,
Harv

Re: Dave Bootleger's SCC EH Van
I received a lead a while ago that the old scc now named ausgrid had a bit of an archive in,their library.
Today I went and visited them and struck gold. They have virtually everything dating back to when they started.
I managed to find heaps of cool stuff to go with the cars including a pic of an eh van.
While I was there I,guy walked in with a how to drive an scc vehicle booklet and I also found an article about the workshop wherethe vehicles were converted once they were delivered.
Turns out the vehicles came from the factory silverpine green but then things like the barn doors, roof racks etc were done in house.
Later I got a call from the head of fleet and I went to homebush to see him.
He had in massive bound albums hundreds of proffessional shots of every model vehicle that went through the place from the thirties.
After that went went through all the hand drawn plans for things like the interior fitouts of the cars.
Later I spoke to,another guy who is going to supply the correct period uniform and all the stuff to go in the back of the van including the two way radio with funky old bakelite phone type handset.
The only, thing to,stuff up a fantastic day was getting booked talking to,the guy on the phone who had all this stuff whilst driving.
Even thougj I was on speaker phone. Having you phone sitting on your lap is a no no.

Way to go Dave! You must be totally wrapped to find all that info. If it was me it would have been worth the ticket.

What awesome photos! Kind of makes up for the bad run with back issues and flying spats!
