New Member - Orange Betty
Hi All, first post, been lurking for a little while tho, hope it works.
No experience at all with car stuff but always wanted to try a restoration so rescued my EK "Orange Betty" on Anzac Day this year from a backyard in Orange NSW. One of my daughters suggested naming her Betty and when I said I wanted to paint her orange (my favourite colour) both daughters and Mrs objected so much that Orange Betty it was!
Body number is EK225-12634-S, Chassis EK47998S and block B300721. From the great info I've found on the site already I reckon she is a mid to late 1962 model. I apologise in advance for lots of no doubt basic questions I'm going to ask but I've already learnt heaps by reading other members build stories and trawling through the technical forums.
Cheers
Dave

Cool project. A fair amount of work, but worth the effort.
I can picture Ram Jam (or Spiderbait) playing "Black Betty" as you cruise in it.
Cheers,

Hi Dave;
Welcome to the forum and as the others have said it is great to see another one being rescued.
Whats the plans for the girl is she going to be standard or some mods etc. either way it looks like you will have lots of fun doing it and get those girls in there to give you a hand mate.
Don't worry about asking questions and thinking they are silly people on here are more than happy to help so just ask away.
Regards
Neil (FireKraka)

Welcome Dave
Can we have more pics please particularly around the inside door bottoms and the boot for a start?
and anywhere else that can give us an idea of what you brought
I can see from the pics already you need to buy the eyebrow replacement brows and probably the top and bottom of the rear of the guards - Standard stuff.
Cheers

Re: New Member - Orange Betty
Thanks for the encouragement.
I got a spare left and right guard in the deal so should be able to end up with two decent ones. Doors aren't too bad but the floor is...
My first thoughts are to restore back to as original as is practical just to have the original experience and upgrade from there. Definately having fun. I've even managed to get the engine out without too much trouble and thanks to good deals at Supercheap Auto on a hoist and stand. Mind you my initially very excited daughter has declined to join me in garage...

lucky its a hydra otherwise there wouldnt be much of it left
Re: New Member - Orange Betty
My 2 bobs worth Dave, get it blasted and you will then see the extent of what you have to repair, obviously you have quite a lot to do with the floor but the rest doesn't (at the moment
) look too bad.
Keep the photos coming mate.

Neil

Dave
I'd pretty much have the Door Jams. Boot and Boot Edges, Floor, Firewall and Sub Frame Blasted but would use Paint Stripper and Newspaper on the rest especially the roof - Don't Blast The Roof!
The dog legs look good from what I can see in the photos.
I hope your Tagging and Bagging as you remove the parts?
Cheers

Re: New Member - Orange Betty
looking pretty solid - a blast will turn up a few surprises for sure - did with mine but nothing that can't be fixed.
Depending on your budget I had my outer panels stripped which cost about 1000$ in man hours but you could do this yourself - use plastic scraper as metal can score the panels.
Then consider someone like Hydrablast who use a combination of methods to completely de-rust the whole thing and put it into epoxy so you then have time to do the repairs at your leisure without worrying about rust creating back in - seals the metal perfectly. Cost around 4500$ as a guide but if it's your ever after car well worth it.
Happy adventures.
