Those 440ml cans are dangerous. 2.2 standard drinks.

Since installing the all synchro box I've been very happy, with two minor issues. The drag link kisses the sump on lock on the idler arm side. I have managed to reduce this to the point where you can only slightly feel it when you force the wheel against the steering stops. Done by a combination of loosening all the mounting fastners, jacking the sump and re tightening, together with a pinch of tippy taps. There are still a few more of the tippy taps left in the tank so we will see. In any case the engine axis is pretty well settled at 6 degrees.

The other issue is some minor vibration at 60mph. Lowering the front and rear suspension has resulted in the pinion axis sitting dead horizontal. I have a pair of steel wedges on the way from Industrial Springs and Wedges up Newcastle way, to correct the pinion angle to 4 degrees. The vibration is moreso on over run so I think leaving pinion pointing 2 degrees down measured static is the go. Wedge dimensions are 63x110mm with 25mm locating hole and will be tacked to the diff saddles. The diff housing is from an LC or LJ and I don't know if it was set up to factory angle, but I would assume it has.

Just waiting on the wedges to arrive and I will slip them in, hopefully before the run to Echuca.

Are they steel or cast ? I put a set in my 46 Chev and had to weld them as they tended to walk around

Steel. Plan to tack weld them to the housing. Just waiting for the caffeine to kick in.

It's obvious that the wedges need to be positively located to the axle.ImageJust hope they are in the right spot because they aren't going anywhere nowImage
I checked north south alignment by eye and looks good. Also measured wheel flange to outer guard clearence spot on.

Mmmm, hope you don't need to adjust the pinion angle Clay, would have tried a little up angle first, good luck, see ya next weekend.

Looking forward to catching up briby. What I have done is adjust the pinion angle up 4degrees. Should still be 2deg down relative to output shaft.

Went for a shakedown and call in on Gledge. Smooth as silk at 55 - 65mph now and more.

Re-measured driveline angles. Output shaft up 6deg, tailshaft down 1deg, pinion up 4deg. Unladen. With the rear wheels off the ground and springs fully extended the pinion points upward an additional 4deg relative to output shaft due to the geometry of the suspension.

Good job Clay, mine was more low speed light acceleration, just kept adjusting pinion up, can't remember what angles ended up at.

Got called out on roadside assist this morning.Image
Nearly made it home with a tonne of firewood in the 6x4. This thing has done some work. Bought it new in 1985. Hauled a good 15t of walling slate home from the quarry over the years. Last use was trip to Gawler Swap last year from memory.Image
I got the wheels and tyres off the panel van when I brought it home in 2015. Rim is pretty bent now. This old cross-ply from the ute got us home.Image
