Harv,

Once the Hawkesbury City guys start a paint job, it progresses at a decent rate. And they're not bad at fabricating repair sections either, I've noticed.

Got a call from Hawkesbury City Smash today - looks like the painting is done, and the ute will be ready to pick up on Saturday. Number One Daughter is super excited... her father is too  .

Now I need to find the keys to the Cortina as I'm going to have to move the Camira to get the Torana out so I can get to the Commodore

Photos to follow after the weekend.

Cheers,
Harv

Number 1 Son decided he wanted a VL Commodore. His friends think it's a classic, and I think it's a late-model car. I'm getting old. It's the newest Holden I've ever owned.

The panel shop sent some teaser photos this morning (EK ute porn):

I hear ya!! My first was a 79 HZ Ute, I've been going backwards from there ever since. Should be driving a humpy by the time I retire at this rate

That colour grey is spectacular. Great stuff

When we first bought the ute, Grace wasn't too keen on the original grey. I think she had visions of red (or pink with purple sparkles). Ardiesse brought around his FE sedan, which is finished in a similar grey colour, with similar red trim. Grace was really, really taken with the finish on the FE, and immediately changed her mind. Grey may not be flashy, but it really suits the era.

Managed to get the ute home over the weekend. Other than the car trailer deciding to play up, all went well. Paint looks really good, and Grace is mighty happy. Managed to forget to pickup the glovebox lid, so will have to make another journey next time I'm home.

Got the doors and tailgate fishoiled, the taillights in, the doors put back together, the ceiling and floor rustkilled and one coat of epoxy on both.

So they fitted and gapped the doors and guards for you Harv?
What has happened to your tow car?

Yep, they fitted and gapped the doors, even adjusted the strikers. Doors look and feel beautiful.

Number 1 Son decided he wanted a VL Commodore, so we hunted one down from Coffs Harbour. It has had a moderate life, though there were a few bugs to iron out. Figured I'd drive his car around for a while, and get the bugs out of it before letting him loose on his P-plates. I ran out of driveway space, so the FB tow car has been having a holiday at my parents house. I've now realised that Number 1 Son needs some time on a manual gearbox (the VL is an auto), so at Christmas I will swap over - the VL can have a rest, and he can finish off his L-plate time in the FB. Got me worried... the clutch in the FB has had a hard life, and he is hard on clutches. May have to do a clutch changeout before the middle of next year  .

I've got a towbar for the ute though.... maybe it needs a turn at being the tow car

Cheers,
Harv

Harv,

Maybe you could enforce the He Who F***s Fixes rule. After all, youth is on his side. When I was at uni, I did a gearbox rebuild in my EK in six hours, including remove and replace. 35 years later, I surprised myself how much more a Holden gearbox weighed compared with what I remembered.
