Restoring EK Special
Restoring EK Special
Hi
Recently purchased EK Special that contains a lot of rust in the body. Would like to get your opinion/advice on what to do. I am torn between a body swap or repairing the original rust. After seeing some of the amazing work you guys have done with your projects, I am second guessing what the right thing to do is as it is all original numbers.
I live on the central coast naw and if anyone would like to have a look or see more pics let me know.
I have two other posts n the wanted/for sale section titled EK FB wanted which contain more pics.
Dave

Re: Restoring EK Special
it's probly going to come down to how handy are you or how much money do you have, as you'de be very lucky to find a body that doesn't need work and then if/when you do chances are it won't be cheap so maybe fix this one or look at it as a parts car
in saying that I have a body it's an auto body and still needs work (quick list both lower rear quarters front floor pans and boot floor) but probly a bit better than that one it doesn't roll (no subframe no diff no rear springs) I'm in central west NSW $300 if you want it

Hi Dave
like most eks that are untouched they love a little bit of rust, and it's all down to time and money depending on which way you go, I live 10 mins from you, if you like i'll come around next weekend and have a look .

Re: Restoring EK Special
That car isnt too bad. The question is do you have the sticktoitness to see it through to the end.
Too many people pull viable cars apart, then get overwhelmed and the car turns to parts.
I reckon ive seen more cars go to god as unfinished projects as ones that are left to rot in paddocks
I dont know how much you can do yourself but if you are planning on doing it properly its going to cost you a minimum of $20000.
If you just want to fix what needs fixing and getting it on the road probably half that.
There are several nice cars for sale for under $20000 and you can enjoy it straight away.
By the way welcome to the forum and good luck which ever way you go.

Re: Restoring EK Special
Completely agree but looks in not to bad shape, the bloke still has WA plates on it and has never had it registered in QLD nor does he know when it was last regoed.
Re: Restoring EK Special
I am very sticky. But don't have $20000.want something to play with now as just finished minor resto/clean up on my other car. And just brought house I'm thinking 2-3 year build. Just want a good starting point.

Re: Restoring EK Special
Hi Dave,
From the pics you have posted up so far I don't think it is too far gone.
It depends on what you want...a full resto or a basic rolling resto to get it back on the road or you could buy something and be driving tomorrow.

Re: Restoring EK Special
Hi guys
Got another one yesterday looks a lot better in the body. It's drivable brakes work well and it is an ek special complete car every thing there to put it all back together so I have doubles of everything. Does anyone know from the tags what the original colour was ? Also it's a manual should I leave the manual in it or change to auto ? What is more desirable ?
I will be putting some parts on e bay for sale soon I will put a post on here with a link if any one is after any thing pm me if I can help I will.
