seein as though you are going down the 350 path I am sure this can be asked without hi jacking the post.
I am considering going down the line of 350chev crate motor. My mechanic is taking forever and with the aussie dollar going the way it is i reckon I can import a blueprinted 350stroker for less than my 253 will cost to produce less HP.
I am engineered for a 253 and reckon that with a 350 shouldnt be that hard given ive already got the gear to do it less the motor.
What have you heard re engineering for a 350 v 253 308??
With all the parts for a 350 available might make sense.
any words of wisdom from any members appreciated

Mr Baker12,
Here in NSW we are only allowed 327ci, thats what I have. If you look at the RTA site under light vehicle mods it will tell you all about it.
I would assume that because your car is engineered with a 253, you should have all the items needed to suite up to a 327. Eg 2 speed wipers , collapsable steering column, front disc brakes, seat belts in all positions, windscreen washer, side mirrors etc. You would need an engineer to redo the car for rego once again. I really do hate living in NSW because of the restrictions in regards to engine size, chassis rail modifications etc, and yes there will be more rules and regulations coming our way that will probably stop any modified car from being regoed
It is a pain because 350 chevs have that much gear available its not funny, as you said crate motors galore. You could just throw a clunker at it get it regoed and build the 253 as time and money permits.

it can depend on the engineer aswell the way they interpret gidelines look at oldnek's car everybody i know that sees it reckon it should be classed as a full chassied car but his engineer classed it as modified, then there's a mate (and sorry it's a closley guarded secret who the engineer is) who originally couldn't get an engineer to sign off on anything bigger than a 253 in his LC torana he just got it passed with a turboed 5.7 litre genIII, legitimate and not as an ICV so you just got to ring around

but in saying all that you can make any small block go well just getting harder to find the smaller ones 283, 307, 327
you could allways just go 308 will bolt straight in where the 253 came from but you'll still need to re engineer it but as said everything should be there
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Just be careful with some of these US sourced crate motors. I've heard a couple of horror stories lately of people having to tear the motors apart and rebuild them coz the machining and assembly of these things is woeful.

I have one in my 75 series ute.......never ever again. I've done not even 10 thousand k's (not miles  ) and about every 700 kms I've gotta fill it up with oil........burns it, leaks it, F&*%@n piece of S*&t. 5k I could have spent way way better. Was bought from a very well known performance shop too.
Guess like they say, live and learn!
So its a big  from me on crate engines.

Hi Rusty yep busy but slow !!!

Im being held up now with the rear sway bar. I need to keep the diff in till I set the sway bar up so I cant roll it over yet, maybe next week.

Can anyone black out the roof on this car with photo shop. I have always liked the maroon with a black roof might just be the way to go.

Guru's
A little bit has happened over the last few weeks,

Set up the sway bar its a XP Fooord but fits perfect, massaged the rear guards a little, they were pumped years ago and don't look to bad i just tidied the lip up a bit where it had been folded over (young and dumb at the time).

The last shot is on the bump stops so it wont be that low ! Damm NSW RTA! I would modify the rear rails otherwise but Im not allowed to.

Should move foward quick now not much more hard yakka to do but paint, its a long time coming.
