Re: Wiring a SW Tachometer

May have to work this problem by finding the model number then a specific wiring diagram. Prior to 1994, the model and date code was stamped on the body of the gauge e.g: 970B M8 970B is the part number and M8 is the date code (August 1968). After 1994, a 4-digit code was printed on the label, usual...

Re: Wiring a SW Tachometer

Make sure the little selector switch on the back is set to "8". For the first 10 minutes or so you can pretend that you have a high RPM speedway engine. Then set it back to "6".

... not that I ever did that

Re: Harv's FED thread

The engine bolts to one side of the big ally plate, and the gearbox on the other side. The starter-er can’t mount direct to the gearbox, but instead mounts to the ally plate from the engine side.

Re: Harv's FED thread

Transmission in, diff in and measured up for the tail shaft. It’s only 8” long, not so easy for Hardy/Spicer to make up. The shorty box also has a different output shaft. No bronze bush, and no needle rollers like most shorties - it has a caged bearing. Will need to borrow two yokes from Hardies and...

Block tunnel bored and back home. This is what baby Hilux diffs look like. If you feed them VB and Bunnings snags they grow up to be Landcruiser diffs. 7B46CF67-0394-4E6F-A2BF-7B8694A828D9.jpeg 4.7:1 centre, full spool. 7D0BA265-F5EF-429E-87DE-E358A9B23718.jpeg Battery in and wired. Re: harvs ek 327 wagon

Think the miss/idle may have been the PCV. Blocked it, and car seemed OK. Reconnected it, and problem was gone. Hmmmmm… maybe it hadn’t seated, and disturbing it helped. Drove for a while, and problem would occasionally come back. Got lean enough to backfire twice one morning, and no problem since. ...

Re: One for Greg - Bond/Moffat Falcons

Finally managed to catch hold of the owner today. He owns both, and had them out on the roadside getting ready for a car show. Pretty drizzly, so not sure if he got there in the end. He hires them out for weddings etc.

Asked him why he did the cars as stangs and not Falcons. He has always been into Mustangs, and reckons the &*#@ coupes “are all $&@“ed with rust, and they want a fortune for them”.

Re: Shannon’s classic car day

We had a Pug 404. Excellent drive. Torquey under tuned motor I would think ripe for hotting up a bit. Massive drum brakes were very effective. Would you believe at that time 15" tyres were uncommon? Michelin or the cheaper Semperit were the choices. Unconventional rear drive and suspension set...

Re: Harv's FED thread

The drama is that the block was tunnel bored with the girdle in place. Now that stupid me had to cut the ends off the girdle, it may no longer be true. Strip all the bits off it, torque up the caps and baby girdle, and off to Duncan Foster to measure for roundness. Wish me luck. Dammit... machine s...

Haven't seen one of these for a long time... suspect it was last on the Mountain. Incredible car for their day - giant killers like the earlier Minis and later Skyline.

Needs it's front wheel arch moulds checked though

Re: LS1EK

Check the harness carefully for previous owner bodges. Replace those. Reuse what you can. The factory wiring quality is pretty good other than normal wear and tear. Splice in new stuff. Buy a quality crimper - I bought a name-brand ratchet crimper, and learned the hard way that they look good but ar...
