Re: FB/EK Holden Stromberg Carburetion Enthusiasts Guide

Cheers guys. I enjoyed writing this one - helped me better understand a lot of fiddly concepts (like "linkages") that I had a rough idea of, but not properly. I was lucky to get hold of some good Bendix manuals... have since sent the manuals overseas to the Stromberg Carburetor Ltd (Genuin...

Re: Overheating issues.

Similar to Sammy's problem a few months back:
http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtop ... 25&t=13280

Triple check timing, block flush, then shroud (in order of increasing pain-in-the-bum to do) sounds about right.

Cheers,
Harv.

Re: Borg Warner Diff

Gents, I may have this wrong (correct me if I have), but I think the basic process should be: a) select the diff, and have it narrowed to fit the FB/EK shell and desired wheels. b) make up a set of diff mounting saddles, but don't weld them on just yet. c) mount the diff, engine and gearbox into the...

Re: Gauge Pod

No drama. For the curious (including me  ) I ran a tape over the FB speaker grille this morning: A = 9 1/2"-9 5/8" (the front edges are curved) - about 1/2" - 2 1/2" smaller than the EJ/EH one (and not wedge shaped), B = 6 3/4" to 7" (the side edges are also curved...

Re: Spin on Spin Off oil filter conversion

Paul, Any of the aftermarket remote filter kits (eg Moroso) will do the job. a) tee the inlet into the oil pressure sender, b) plumb the outlet to the bung on the sump near the dipstick,' c) plumb a 1.5-2.5mm restriction orifice into either of the supply or return lines, and d) mount the remote filt...

Jarvo, No giggling at my Dodgy Brothers drawing, or I'm sending my four young kids around with crayons and textas (and those special scissors that make little scraps of paper all over the floor) to redecorate your house   : http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad136/V8EKwagon/EHgauges.jpg ...

FB/EK Holden Stromberg Carburetion Enthusiasts Guide

Ladies and Gents, As promised, attached below a link to a the FB/EK Holden Stromberg Carburetion Enthusiasts Guide (with thanks to those on the forum who commented). It contains: • historical information, such as which carburettors and fittings were fitted to different model Holdens, • practical inf...

Re: Gauge Pod

The dimensions look to be pretty similar to FB/EK, a couple of dramas to work through though: a) the FB/EK dash top is flat (for resting brown bottles on whilst working on it.... genuine GMH design feature :P ). The EJ/EH is slanted up. If you put he EJ/EH gauge pod onto the FB/EK, the gauges will a...

Re: trimatic or powerglide

Squirralien, If it was mine, I'd go the trimatic. The traumatic will give you another gear... a little easier on the engine. It appears to be an easier box to get hold of and get bits for from wreckers - was run in Conformadores and You-and-I's long after the 'glide was history. A worked over trauma...

Re: Electric fuel pump question

Steve, It should self-prime with the first full-load of fuel in the tank...may not prime if the first fuel load is less than 2/3. After that, it will syphon happily - vapour lock is very unlikely in the tank (more likely at the hotter carb end of the line). The Holley red in my EK wagon runs out of ...

Re: Gauge Pod

I like the EH accessory gauges - not NASCO as far as I know, but period correct: http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad136/V8EKwagon/IMG_0226.jpg http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad136/V8EKwagon/IMG_0225.jpg The "eyeball vernier" says they would be a near-fit to FB/EK, though given the da...

A thousand words :D . It's the rusty looking bit where paint had to be scraped off to see the stamping.

Re: Remote Oil Filter and Oil pressure gauge

Dab102, The dimension in the oil filter document came from a single restrictor I was able to pull apart and measure - take it as guidance rather than mandatory as I didn't measure a few hundred of them  . I could not find a documented restrictor diameter anywhere. Try the 2.5mm restrictor: a) ...

Re: Removing Springs on a HR Front end

Theres a couple of ways to do it: a) using spring compressors from SuperCheap, Repco etc. Not recommended by most... the aftermarket compressors are pretty flimsy, and are holding up a crapload of force when the springs are smooshed. b) buy some threaded rod and steel bar/washers - most reccomended ...

Re: FB Chassis number location?

Open the bonnet, and look at the left-hand (drivers) side inner guard. There is an electrical connection panel near the front (four or so screwed terminals in a wiring block that hold the headlight and parklight wiring). The numbers are generally stamped just behind this on the surface inclined at a...
