Bit better than my other solution which was a little more agricultural. Off cut of rubber hose with an ID of 1/4'' slipped over the shaft, with a short bit of steel rod stuffed down the end of it.

Spent the morning looking for an internal rear view mirror. This slowly drifted off and I ended up searching for exterior door handles, which I either need to get re chromed or replace. Checking the current price on Resto Country, and discovered that they are currently selling REAR door handle pairs...

Further - if there is interest, would be happy to go in for a bulk purchase on something like this (assuming it is the right one). Would save a few $$$ if it has to come from the States. Any takers?
