Re: stripped sump plug

the thread in the sump is perfect (I chased it with a tap for peace of mind anyway) and the original sized 1/2” UNF20 sump plug is what gave up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210319/f7a3032f0b7e8003c1b7d58db8dde962.jpg Can’t find one in my nuts & bolts stash, so I’ll order a new one in. Phe...

Re: stripped sump plug

I think the sump plug is 1/2" UNF. I haven't got a plug here, but I suspect so too: 1/2"-20UNF. MasterParts lists an oversized plug as 9/16"-18UNF. https://www.rarespares.net.au/rarespares/buy/7433632/oil-pan-drain-plug-916-18-oversize-af-34 https://www.kingswoodcountry.com.au/buy/ho...

Re: stripped sump plug

I sourced an oversize plug a few months ago. Even better, it started as standard and expanded as it screwed in. Unfortunately the shop closed last week. Sent from my SM-N976B using Tapatalk I had an LJ Torana 173 with an odd, tapered sump plug in it. I'm betting it was similar to what you're descri...

Re: stripped sump plug

Joe, I think the sump plug is 1/2" UNF. Over-size plugs should be available. There might even be a mobile thread repair service too. I've seen sumps rescued with a washer-shaped piece of 1/4" steel plate brazed on. And I have a couple of spares. Sumps, that is. Rob Thanks Rob. Yep I've se...

Re: Leroy the EK Ute

G'day Joe, Good to see you have the ute out and about. These Utes come in handy for hauling bikes! Are the two Trumpys built up specials or originals (54 pre unit) and the later one unit construction? Got any pics? What is the bike in the back of your ute, looks like a Yamaha 250 tank? Hope your ar...

Re: Leroy the EK Ute

Can confirm that I've put some 5000 miles on this motor without so much as a hiccup. It's not using any oil at all between oil changes, starts and idles fantastic in all weather, the plugs are all a lovely colour and it has perfect compression. The engine is only just bed-in, to be honest, and it a...

Re: stripped sump plug

Hey Greg! Yep I'm good mate, recovering from a broken arm thanks to a spot of over-enthusiasm a few weeks back, as I am still learning how to ride speedway bikes effectively... haha... but I'm still smiling :) How's things for you? Just caught up on your sedan build, it's looking really great! If I ...

Looks like you're still having fun Clay, just had a skim. Great to catch up on all the goings on!

Looking forward to seeing the 7" steelies installed.

stripped sump plug

Hello all, 60 years young and my EK ute is suddenly incontinent - the sump plug crossed the thread in the sump after an oil change on the weekend. Damn! We managed a 100-mile round trip without drama afterward, but it's leaking real bad. Before I dismantle, I thought I'd ask here: what size/pitch is...

Re: Leroy the EK Ute

Hello Drew! Well this is pretty funny. I actually just logged in to ask the brains trust for some advice (I haven't been on here for a while!) and there's my thread at the top of the index. Thanks for reading. Can confirm that I've put some 5000 miles on this motor without so much as a hiccup. It's ...
