Re: Thermostats

Thanks Harv - I was hoping someone with formal qualification would come on board in this thread - you have explained everything very, very well... And thank you for taking the time to put so much together in layman's terms (mine). Between you and Rob, I believe you have both dispelled the myth that ...

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Yes Clay - 60% would have me pack my gear away... the 20C is borderline, but if the air was drier, I'd probably go ahead. In Adelaide, you get drier air than we do over here in Melbourne.. we are in the outer east and at the foothills of Mt Dandenong... and not too far from the Yarra Valley.... the ...

Tomorrow, Clay - well, actually today - yesterday was my birthday.... spent two hours of the end of it putting up my Godzilla post in the slot car thread....

Re: Slot cars

I have 8 of these GT-40's... all but two of them are Slot-It.. the other two are Scalextric - and they "stink"... they run, but they are more of a "kids" slot car.. they have no performance and slide around on pretty looking tyres, which do almost nothing to either give them trac...

Re: Slot cars

Ok - two posts on this.. I'll try to keep to basic explanation.. with 7 pix in both posts... Here it is - Godzilla... this model is the most powerful and sensitive model I have ever built... it is almost "un" driveable. Without the SCP-2 controller - it would be too much to be able to keep...

Re: Thermostats

Thanks for taking the time to study and explain the physics of this subject, Rob - it is very much appreciated. I believe I have understood all of what you post - and understand that all of it is derived from applied science. Thank you further for putting it into terms we can relate to - do you have...

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Roger Hancock (holdenrestoman) reconditioned my steering box... I told him I'd take care of painting the column and honeypot... He told me that he uses an aerosol from Bunnings.. can't remember what the brand is, think it might have been "Monarch".. but the colour is "monument".....

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

I cheated and took the shot when I had just squirted it with the hose boys. Wet rub with 400 as recommended by Steve, my paint guru. The TDS actually says 600 wet. If I have to put more primer then scuff with 240. FB ute fixer upper, EK van on rotisserie Hmmmm - I'm going to have to keep my eye on ...

Re: Thermostats

We'll agree to disagree then, Clay - if we can find an engineer... who can prove to me with physics that such is the case - I'll jump ship with my thoughts and beliefs... Yes - radiator cap - where the blasted thing should be - highest point in the cooling system... The debacle when Holden fitted th...

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

You might regret that gloss, Clay - more so that it is a light colour...
However, the abrupt angle of our windscreens may not give the same amount of reflection that modern cars do with a much lower angle of attack...

Looks schmick.. great finish... you must be happy with that?

Re: Thermostats

Yep I would have to disagree with the you need to slow the water down is a myth. i will never know as my problem was solved !! Greg I'd like to see something from a technical department or system engineer before I dispel my belief, Greg... Yes, it could have been locally cavitating... in the true s...

Re: Thermostats

From the Heater Guide: the "water needs to slow down in the radiator" story is a myth. Hmmmm.... I guess who ever wrote this has some authority - I am not disputing it, but firmly believe that even a stuck open thermostat should be left in the the housing rather than run without one.... I...

Re: LS1EK

Yes, Simon - you will have to work in this engine bay during the life of the vehicle.... removing clutter makes that a lot easier... "stuff" gets in the way.
How are you planning on accessing the spark plugs... getting to #7 in a V12 Jag was a nightmare...

Re: LS1EK

Sheesh!, Simon... by golly there's some work in there.... just take a peek at that firewall.. and the radiator baffles... that's some serious metal... Motor look huge in the bay... and yet to have fittings... engineer will freak!... and probably ask for a bit.. but, it's out in the open and easy acc...
