The different heights/thicknesses of the two manifolds don’t help the washers. I use the bench grinder to step one side until the washer sits flat… then tighten well.
RAG but it works.

Re: Chrome plater recommendation
Will let you know how I go. 6-8 week lead so won't see the bits until last week of April/1st week of May. There were two options: show chrome and normal. I went for normal, as the FED will get used... hard. Quote to electrochemically strip then replate the steering arm and sump was $577. Shouldn't b...

Re: Making your own braided hoses
Good advice, and thanks all.
Ended up going with Speedflow hose and fittings. Parcel arrived with -6, -8 and -10 gear, and looks good. I had forgotten how good (and quick) their customer service is. Fitup process is pretty simple provided I take my time.

Harv

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I couldn't put up with the deafening sound of crickets on here any longer. Ive decided the noise I thought sounded like rockers is a slight exhaust leak between the head face and manifold. There is carbon build-up evident above the manifold on the painted head surface. I will try and retention the ...

Re: Harv's FED thread
Lining up some projects for the Easter break. One of them is the windshield for the FED. It only needs to be about 4" tall in the middle, and tapers down to nothing at either end. The mounting holes are already drilled in the cowl. windshield.jpg One option is to make it from thin ally sheet. I...

Re: SA club trip to the NAt's in Bumbury
The throttle stick comes with integral kick release, and will help my gluteus maximum relax on the drive. It’s a bit of red neck tech I got from a truckie hauling tuna streaky bay to port Lincoln in the 70s. Used a similar setup on the Toowoomba trip but this one is the beta model. Does it double a...

Re: Harv's Repco HighPower crossflow head thread
Checked in on the progress going on for the head. Head and roller rockers now in the same location. Water jacket plugs out of the top – glad they could get them out, as I couldn’t even with a cheater bar. Solid (not allan-head) plugs being sought to allow the extra rocker shaft support to be added (...

Re: Chrome plater recommendation
Thanks Brett. Spoke to Shane this morning. He has at least an eight month backlog (not that I am in any hurry). He won't do the sump though .
He's recommended Astor Metal Finishes in Villawood... gave them a call, waiting on a quote.

Chrome plater recommendation
I have been getting chrome work done by a gentleman in Bundarra, NSW. He has done parts for various cars of mine, and Dad's. When it came time to do the FED, there was no question - packed the parts up and sent them to him. Parts came back a few months later, and I'm really happy with them. The only...

Re: FB219 Standard StationSedan
It's the breather, which allows air in/out of the booster guts (not into the engine!) as the diaphragm flexes. With the booster under the guard, a remote breather is reccomended - see here for what they look like:

That PS rack looks really neat. Makes the old front-mount UC/LH ones look really untidy.
