Condensation inside the distributor cap or a small crack can also be the problem.

You need to make sure the timing is correct. If you don't have a timing light get someone who has one do it. If it is too far advanced there will be pinking on acceleration and if retarded too far it will sluggish with lack of power and overheating. Keep in mind that the points gap will affect the t...

Check the tension on the inlet manifold bolts. There may be a slight leak there - maybe the gasket is a little on the bad side. Check there is no leak on the vacuum hoses. The easiest way to do this is to disconnect the outlet where it comes off the carby and block this point. Are all carby to manif...

Hi Rosco I had a look through the service manuals and could not find one for a Model "JYO". However I have one for a "JYQ". Could you check to see if this is the model. It is a hybred radio with 4 valves and a single output transistor. Valves are 6ES6, 12AD6, 6ET6, 12J8, and the ...

What is the model of the Airchief radio. This will be stamped on the back or side and is something like DJR or some combination of three letters like that. I may have a service manual for it. If so I can determine the impedance of the required speaker. As Smooth mentioned it is probably 15 ohm imped...

I have just received an email from the Xtroll people with regards to applying a lacquer based paint over the Xtroll. "Xtroll (Rust Conqueror) is a white spirits-based product (ie like turps). Applying paints with a solvent base stronger than turps can sometimes cause the Xtroll coating to crink...

Hi Rosco I have used a product called Xtroll. http://www.corrosion-tech.com.au/Xtroll/xtroll.html It is excellent over rust. All you need is to remove any flaking rust. Pricing is around $33 per litre. It is a bit like water and goes a long way. I brush it on thinly and find no brush marks for small...

Molasses mixed with water about 3:1 works well also. It takes about a week to remove the rust. Check it every couple of day and give it a bit of stir around. Hose it off when done and paint straight away. I used the bottom half of a 200ltr drum. Eventually it ate the bottom out of the drum. Be caref...

For small parts I find cleaning vinegar works well. Use full strength. Quite cheap - around $2.00 from the supermarket for 4ltrs. Use a plastic bucket.

I have just done the trims on my FC using a rag wheel on my grinder and using a stick of cutting compound brown in color. There a few different coloured stick available - each one having a different grit compound. I found the brown was the best on stainless. Just be careful you don't get the trim ca...
