Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Clay - I’d be interested to hear how you find the diamond finish clear from kbs. I’ve had mixed results - seems to spray much better than it brushes on. Easy to get gas bubbles with the brush...

Re: Nitro FB Lucerne and Alpine Blue revamp

Paint looks great and I like what you did with the mats and the fleck. If I can’t save my originals with red fleck I might give your method a try. Did you use a special paint to stick to the rubber?

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Clay - do the mats have the coloured fleck in them, or all black?

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Hmmmm if I wasn’t reading this thread backwards I wouldn’t have to have asked that question - regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing how the Chevy grey comes out!

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

Will be interested to see how that KBS engine paint turns out - did you go with the Chevy Grey? Seems to be closest to the grey of a grey motor...

Re: Warmaride heater resto

Thanks Clay - i considered using citric acid but wasn't sure if it would be too harsh, particulary given I don't know what metal the heater is made from. Will mix some up and take it slowly. As for welding it, I'll cut a patch from a rust repair panel and see what I can do...

Warmaride heater resto

Hi all I have this heater for my FB that needs a bit of love. I've got hold of Harv's heater document which has been really helpful, and I think this is a fresh air version. The heater core seems fairly solid, but the outer casing has a bit of rust. I'd like to strip the rust and repair the hole in ...

Re: Brake and clutch tins

Thanks for the advice everyone. Aside from sliding the lot into the oven alongside the sunday roast to loosen the tins, I'll take them to the pros for a look at. Mine have a couple of minor dents which I reckon could be pulled out, and no obvious holes - I guess once stripped I will have a better id...

Brake and clutch tins

Hi all My restoration is in super slo-mo, due in part to a caravan restoration happening at the same time. But i'm still always watching this forum and picking up parts when i can ready for the time that I'll be able to spend a bit more time on the FB sedan. I have always prefered the look of tin ca...

Re: Compressor for spraying

IRON AIR.jpg i spent ages trying to get the most air for the least money. In the end I got this compressor from total tools in the Boxing Day sale for about $700. 320l/m FAD and 90 litre tank. Needs 15amp power but that wasnt a problem at home. So far it's been good. It's pretty busy running a DA s...

Thanks for the pics of motor removal - will make up for my lack of documenting the process when I come to put my motor back in!

Re: spinning oil pump

Oil coming out of all twelve rocker arms? Number 1 cylinder exhaust rocker (the very front one) tends to be starved of oil if the rocker arm bushes are worn. The classic "bush mechanics' cure" in this case is to put a self-tapping screw in the oil fitting's relief hole. Rob Hi Rob - yep a...

Re: spinning oil pump

Success! I’ve got oil pumping out everywhere! No need to replace the oil pump gears then. Only a small victory, but satisfying nonetheless. Thanks for the advice.

Re: spinning oil pump

If you position the engine with number 1 cylinder at firing instant and spin the oil pump, you'll get oil up to the rockers. (There's a groove in one of the camshaft journals to direct oil up to the fitting, but it's not machined all the way around.) Worn oil pump gears are not a great problem, bel...
